Google users will notice today that they “turned the lights out” on the Google Homepage, as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone.

This is one of those feel good moves by Google that might actually have an impact: Whether or not you believe climate change is a significant threat to the planet, becoming more energy efficient has obvious economic and ecological benefits to us, and raising awareness around that can only be a good thing.
